I took these photos of a 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa at New Jersey Motorsports Park during the 2009 Ferrari Challenge. 250 TR’s are a rare breed, but this one (s/n 0666) is even more special. 0666 is the prototipo (prototype) of the series, itself based on the 290MM. The racer went through several body modifications in it’s lifetime, ultimately remaining with the Scaglietti-designed pontoon fenders. This Ferrari raced in numerous endurance races including LeMans, Nurburgring and Sebring. Complete details about s/n 0666

At NJMP the car was driven by Mark Hamilton Peters, an instructor based at Lime Rock Park. He drove the car hard, sawing at the wheel in the tighter turns. It was a sight. Some of these photos were used in the 2011 Maximum Ferrari Wall Calendar.

UPDATE: This car sold 8/21/2011 for a record $16.4m at Pebble Beach

A quick recap of the Ferrari F430 Challenge event March 13th and 14th at Homestead-Miami International Raceway

A quick recap of this past weekend’s F430 Challenge race at Homestead/Miami International Speedway. The track was set up in it’s roadcourse configuration for the weekend.

Saturday March 13th, 2010 – Enzo Potolicchio (Ferrari of Fort Lauderdale) took the pole and didn’t relinquish the lead until a late race incident with Scott Tucker (Boardwalk Ferrari). With just minutes left in the race, Tucker attempted an inside pass in turn three. But contact with Potolicchio’s F430 put him into the grass. Tucker was able to stay on the track and assume the lead. Potolicchio expertly ket two tires in contact with the pavement, allowing him to stay in control and retain 2nd place. The threat of losing second place was minimized as Ted Skokos (Boardwalk Ferrari) was nearly 10 seconds behind in third place.

Scott Tucker attempts to squeeze by Enzo Potolicchio

Race officials determined after the race that Tucker’s move was avoidable contact, giving him a 60-second penalty, dropping him to tenth place and moving Potolicchio into first. Skokos would move up to second and Mike Zoi (The Collection) moved onto the podium in third place.

Sunday March 14th, 2010 – Sunday’s race had far less excitement for the leaders. Scott Tucker took the pole and kept Enzo Potolecchio in second despite a late race charge by Potolecchio in the final laps. Potolecchio would retain in second place and Mike Zoi once again finished third.

The weekend included several on track events including Corse Clienti featuring ex-Formula One cars driven by Gerhard Berger and Michael Schumacher. Additionally the track played host to the North American debut of the 599XX Programme which took the track with the spectacular FXX’s.

Homestead was a great venue for the event. I’m already looking forward to next year’s event. Next up Miller Motorsportspark April 10th and 11th.

Early in February I was contacted by Darrell White, an Automotive and Aviation Artist based in St. Louis. Darrell utilizes a very realistic style, and a critical eye for attention to detail. His upcoming works include an aviation piece which is going to a museum and will be unveiled for a US Navy and Marine Corp aviation symposium in May, 2010. That piece will also be used for the production of a commemorative coin via the USMC squadron it represents. Other paintings soon to be released will include several for various automotive museums around the country.

I am getting closer and closer to moving Barchetta Images and Maximum Ferrari into one common site, with the same host as my other web sites Right Mind Marketing and HeyFairfield.

Yesterday I was able to add the first gallery, and today I made a new banner to serve as my logo for the time being. And this is the first blog post on the new site (yeah!).

All this while preparing to head to Homestead-Miami Speedway next week for the first Ferrari Challenge race of the season. I’ve got a lot to do!
